Next to reading and writing, teaching is one of my absolute favorite things to do.
Listed below are the topics I typically teach, but if you have requests for a different topic, contact me–I’m open to suggestions. Also, if my fees don’t fit your budget, don’t assume you can’t hire me. I consider each event on an individual basis, so go ahead and email your proposal.

FEAR & WRITING
Telling a writer to write without fear is like telling a human to breathe without oxygen. Fear is a natural part of the creative process. Instead of fighting it, work with it. Through stories, mindfulness, and free-writing, author Peg Cheng will help you discover simple, realistic ways to face your fear, get to know it, and use it to propel your writing, rather than hinder it. With fear on your side, there’s nothing stopping you from being the writer you want to be.
Duration: 2 hours
Audience: teens and adults
Hi Peg, taking part in your course yesterday was such a pleasure and it motivated me on several levels. I have some fears regarding my current novel and plan on using some of the techniques you taught us. I could see that all the participants really were benefiting and grateful for your advice. You have a great way to explain everything with such wonderful examples. So, thank you for that wonderful experience.
Peg was a great teacher. She had experienced the fear of writing so was able to talk about from a place of having worked through it. She was able to give good suggestions. She shared her love of writing and was very encouraging!
The topic, Fear and Writing, felt extremely relevant personally. I am grateful to the instructor for sharing her experience and lessons so generously. I find myself utilizing her suggestions daily!
Peg Cheng was an excellent instructor. A good balance of honest, helpful instruction, along with writing prompts that really helped me to tap into my fears and find myself enjoying putting pen to paper again.
Your courses are a gift during this extraordinary time, keeping me connected to others and helping me stay engaged in my writing practice while at home alone. Peg Cheng’s organized approach–pulling in feedback in the chat section, keeping us active in the moment with meditation and prompt writing, inviting us to share–all of it made the experience valuable to me. I am so grateful to her and to Literary Arts!
THE CONTENDERS
Can enemies become friends? That’s the question at the heart of THE CONTENDERS, a novel featuring two fifth graders who couldn’t be more different or hate each other more. With author Peg Cheng’s guidance, students will cultivate their social emotional skills through unpacking the story arcs of two relatable characters and the challenges they face. This workshop allows teachers and students to address bullying through the power of literature, and discover solutions that build empathy and compassion. NOTE: It is required that each student attending this talk has read THE CONTENDERS or has had it read to them. Being familiar with the book is crucial to making this talk successful and meaningful for students so please plan accordingly. Also, we offer educational discounts on bulk orders of the book.
Duration: 50 minutes
Audience: 3rd, 4th, 5th grade students, and adults
