Vlog #3: Wordstock: Portland Book Festival 2017

Today’s vlog is about my trip to Wordstock: Portland Book Festival!

I joined 10,000 readers and more than 100 authors who came together on a rainy Saturday on November 11, 2017 to celebrate books, writers, and reading. If you’ve never been (this was my first time), I hope this vlog will make you want to go.

Hats off to Portland’s Literary Arts for hosting an AMAZING event.

Shout-out to the AWESOME authors and moderators I saw speak that day.

Thank you to my sis-in-law Cindy Donner for hosting us. Love and gratitude to my hubs Marcus Donner for driving, filming, and co-editing this vlog. Last but not least, thanks to Audionautix for the use of his lovely song, Redwood Trails.

Peg Cheng is the author of The Contenders, a middle-grade novel centered on the question, can enemies become friends? She is currently writing another novel that is a re-imagining of the Snow White fairy tale set in 1980s Seattle. Peg is also the creator of Fear & Writing, a workshop for procrastinating writers from all walks of life.

Thanks for the tour, Cubby–I see you’re keeping a toe in the YA world. Maybe Tess and I will go next year. Get out of the Seattle rain into the Portland rain, a real northwest getaway!

I liked the silent movie style–still early in your vlogging, yet already you’re evolving it. Nice, I hope you keep experimenting. (BTW, was it shot with a phone or a camera? It looks pretty good.)

Glad you enjoyed the tour, Edgy. And thanks for encouraging my evolving vlogging style. It’s fun to do my posts in a more visual way. I will keep experimenting and hopefully, you’ll continue to like what I produce. I got a lot of help from Marcus on the filming and editing. We shot the footage using my iPhone, Marcus’s GoPro camera (it’s waterproof), and his Sony A6000 camera. I hope you and Tess do check out Wordstock one of these years. It’d be cool to see you there next year!

What people are saying…

Lizz Zitron, College Professor

The Contenders is the middle grade novel you’ve been waiting for: diverse characters who are funny and real. Eunice and her friends and family feel so real–they are flawed, kind, complex, a little mean at times, and just wanting to find their place in the world. Highly recommended for every middle school collection.

Jas Hothi, Author + Entrepreneur

I’ve done my fair share of personal finance reading and, well, Rebel Millionaire is probably the single best thing I’ve read. Why? So effortlessly simple and effective. As I’m about to turn 31, this is just the nudge I needed to start saving and investing for my future. Thank you, Peg, and Plaid Frog Press!

What I love so much about your writing is how personal it is. It gives me permission to accept and love my own humanity, while also giving really helpful tips and mindset shifts, and next steps too.
